Nineteen years ago, many of you responded to the collective call that we honor the Families of our PP/POWs for their generational sacrifices to the Black Freedom struggle. It is in that tradition that the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee is pleased to announce “In the Tradition,” our 19th Annual Dinner Tribute to the Families of our Political Prisoners & Prisoners of War.
This event, co-sponsored by the 1199 SEIU Activists, will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 from 3pm-7pm with dinner served at 4pm and $10 validated parking available will take place at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Labor Center, 310 West 43rd Street (between 8th & 9th Ave) in Manhattan.
Our guest speakers and cultural presentations will be none other than our Beloved Iyaluua Ferguson and Amina Baraka, two radical Black womyn who have long stood “In the Tradition” of holding up half the revolutionary New Afrikan sky.
Iyaluua Ferguson is an educator, former Chair of the People’s Council of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika, former exile, editor of “Nation Time,” co-author of “Herman Ferguson: An Unlikely Warrior, Evolution of a Black Nationalist Revolutionary” and founder of this Dinner Tribute. Amina Baraka is a legendary People’s poet, song stylist, member of the Communist Party, endorser of the Black Radical Congress, contributor to several anthologies and raised her son, Ras Baraka, to be the newly elected mayor of the city of Newark. MXCC is extremely proud and honored to welcome both these freedom fighting womyn as invited guests.
It is understatement to say that the past year has brought us many unexpected changes: the Transitions of our Beloved elders and co-founding members Yuri Kochiyama and Chairman Emeritus, Baba Herman Ferguson, radical poet activist Baba Amiri Baraka and the resignation of Mani Gilyard, our several years co-chair. Through it all, MXCC stands firm in our commitment to the work carried out by our revolutionary elders, and steadfast in solidarity with the sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, wives, grandchildren and Loved ones of our captured Freedom Fighters.

The theme “In the Tradition” is a reminder that the struggle for Black self-determination, justice and Liberation continues forward. We send this letter to invite a community of new family, friends and younger people, as we look forward to the continued support and participation of those who for close to two decades have helped us pay well-deserved tribute to our captured Freedom Fighters and their families.
Your Donation remains $40 in advance and $45 at the door with all proceeds going to the commissary accounts of PP/POWs represented by Family at the Dinner.
We ask that if you cannot attend to PLEASE MAKE A DONATION anyway, as this Dinner Tribute helps us absorb some of the financial costs the political imprisonment of their Loved ones places on our families.
On behalf of our PP/POWs and their Families, we say Asante Sana for making this annual fundraising event a valued community institution!!!!!

What Would Harriet Tubman Do? Buy the sneakers, grovel for reparations or free those still enslaved?

Slavery is a "freed" people contributing to the exploitation of the enslaved.
  • What would Harriet Tubman do?
  • Would she grovel for Reparation, knowing that neither money nor any form of recompense can free the African's mind?
  • Would she buy the sneakers...luxuriate in other products of slavery and exploitation?
  • Or, would she free the 35.5 million people enslaved in a Africa and around the world? ~Kwasi

WAR ON THE PEOPLE

TheBlackList

WAR ON THE PEOPLE by Natalie ~

"If you do care and are willing to stand up, you have a lot in common with the founders of this country, the authors of the Declaration of Independence.  Whatever their personal interests, they stood up and risked death for committing treason.  In the case of the protesters closing down freeways and business establishments, the fight is for the enforcement of the U.S. Constitution and that is not treason – that’s patriotism...", ~Natalie. Bro. Shep's Guidelines For Non-Violent Public Protest Marches and Rallies

TheBlackList

BEFORE YOU TAKE THE STREETS:
Bro. Shep's Guidelines For Non-Violent Public Protest Marches & Rally's!!

*Zulu King Sadiki "Bro. Shep" Olugbala s/n Shepard P. McDaniel, is a former member of the "original" Black Panther Party New York State Chapter, who has over 42 years of experience in organizing and training others in militant "non-violent" community protest marches, rally's, boycotts, demonstrations and Anti-Police Terror tactics & actions.
Additionally, "Bro. Shep" has personally provided security in both the aforementioned areas and for high profile events such as the NYC visits by then Cuban President Fidel Castro, former Ghanian President Jerry Rollins, the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and other foreign dignitaries during visits to NYC's Black & Brown Communities.
Guidelines For Non-Violent Public Protest Marches & Rally's
Preparation
Dependent upon their collective experience; Your group leadership should have at least (1) logistical planning meeting prior to the actual day of the rally, march or demonstration. Included in the agenda should be the identification of the Security Coordinator, Lead Spokesperson, Police Laizon, and an itemized review of ALL the below guideline areas.Legal Observers
It is very important to have at least (1 to 2) legal observers "visibly" on hand throughout the protest action. Their presence can not only work as a deter ant to police misconduct but also provide your group with a lawyer who can testify as a witness in court on your groups behalf.  Both The National Lawyers Guild & The ACLU can provide your group with lawyers to observe the action.Peoples Security

First & Foremost It Most Be Understood By ALL That The Security & Protection Of The Group Is Paramount.
1. Whenever Possible, Security Should Do An Advanced Walk Through Of The Protest Area In Order To Gather The Necessary Intelligence.
2. Security Should Meet Separately In Order To Produce A Competent Security Plan For The Day.
3. Security Should Be "Visibly" identifiable by approved clothing, colors, armbands, radios etc.
4. All Security Must follow the established chain of command, protocol, rules of engagement and "Orders Of The Day"
5. All Security MUST Be Courteous, Non-Antagonistic and Professional in any & all actions.
Agent Provocateurs
A) Historically all government agencies and private companies have used agent provocateurs at mass demonstrations in order to agitate disorder and/or violent situations which will justify the mass police attacks & arrests of demonstrators for the explicit purposes of:
1. To Discredit The Legitimate Cause Of The Protestors
2. To Discourage Future Protests & Organizing
3. To Drain Organizational Resources In Bail & Court Fees
4. To Jail And/Or Physically Assault The Activist Leadership
5. To Disperse The Crowd & Put An Immediate End To The Protest

B) Do Not Be Deceived. This protest either has been or will be infiltrated by agent provocateurs and in order to defeat their efforts to disrupt please adhere to the following protocols:
1. Refuse To Be Drawn Into Arguments With Any Passer By Opposition or Bystanders. If You Are Handing Out Leaflets Then Leaflet & Keep It Moving.
2. Do Not Engage In Any Rock, Bottle Or Projectile Throwing & If You Witness Any Such Activity Immediate Leave From That Area.
3. Do Not Cross Any Police Barriers & Absolutely Do Not Engage In Any Direct Conversation With The Police. Only The Identified Group Liazon/Spokesperson Should Speak To The Confirmed Police Supervisor and/or Police Community Officer In Charge.
4. Stay Together With Your Group; Remain Orderly When Marching; And Do Not Break Ranks Or Allow Anyone From Outside The Group To Break Your Ranks.
5. If You Must Defend Yourself, Do Not Strike The First Blow. Call Upon Your Comrades To Surround & Isolate The Offender Until Security Assists In Physically Removing The Aggressor From The Group
6. Follow The Instructions Of Our Peoples Security At All Times & The Written "Orders Of The Day"
Orders Of The Day (sample sheet)
1. KEEP THIS SHEET WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES
2. NO ILLEGAL WEAPONS, DRUGS OR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
3. STAY WITH YOUR GROUP AT ALL TIMES DURING THE PROTEST ACTION AND WHEN MOVING NEVER BREAK RANKS, STAY WITH THE DAY'S CHANTS & FOLLOW THE GROUPS LEAD FLAG(S)
4. IF YOU MUST LEAVE FOR A REST ROOM OR WATER ETC.. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE BY YOURSELF AND LET SOMEONE IN THE GROUP KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING. ALSO STAY IN RADIO OR CELL PHONE COMMUNICATION WITH THE GROUP UNTIL YOU RETURN.
5. IF YOUR GROUP IS TRAVELING BY BUS and/or VEHICLE CARAVAN EVERYONE MUST BE AT THE DESIGNATED PICKUP AREA ON TIME AND UTILIZE THE SAME BUS AND/OR VEHICLE FOR YOUR RETURN TRIP.
THE CARAVAN MUST STAY TOGETHER & IN COMMUNICATION UNTIL REACHING THE DESIGNATED SAFE ZONE.
6. EMERGENCY PHONE # _______________________________________________
7. NEAREST HOSPITAL     _______________________________________________
8. NEAREST POLICE PCT. _______________________________________________
9. BE SURE TO STAY VIGILANT, PROTECT YOURSELF & ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF YOUR GROUPS SECURITY AT ALL TIMES!
