Dear Friends,
This weekend IFCO staff is preparing to attend the 25th anniversary of ELAM in Havana to celebrate with medical doctors from around the world who have benefitted from this prestigious program.
Unfortunately Hurricane Rafael, Category 3, threatened those plans. Either way IFCO is determined to travel and be with our siblings on the island at this time.
As we write this, the storm is ripping through Cuba, fierce winds and rain have once again damaged the fragile national electric grid and left the entire island in total darkness. This isn’t just nature’s wrath; it’s a reminder of the unnatural violence imposed by U.S. sanctions, deepened by the Trump-Biden policies that choke Cuba’s access to energy, medical supplies, and resources needed to survive moments like these. This is a man-made disaster layered on top of a natural one, hitting hardest where people already struggle to make it day by day.
But we know the Cuban people. They are not defined by victimhood but by resilience and revolutionary spirit. They’ve been here before, defying the odds, building solidarity networks, and standing together. It’s on us, those of us committed to justice, to honor that spirit and not just sit back and watch.
Let’s get loud. Let’s tell the truth about the sanctions strangling the Cuban people. Let’s mobilize our communities to demand that the U.S. government lift its blockade and end its war on Cuba’s right to live with dignity. Let's give and donate generously when we can, so that collectively we can make our solidarity felt.
Now is the time for more than just words. Send what you can, organize where you are, and show up however you’re able. Cuba stands tall with us in every fight for justice—now it’s our turn to stand with Cuba.
In Solidarity, The IFCO Family |
