ANNOUNCING THE 10TH ANNUAL CARIBBEAN STUDIES NEW COLLEGE CONFERENCE ON RACISM AND NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS “CONTINUING WESTERN SLAUGHTER AND PLUNDER CONTINUING WESTERN LIES” SATURDAY OCTOBER 29th 2011 10 am to 5 pm WILLIAM DOO AUDITORIUM 45 WILLCOCKS @ SPADINA NEW COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO http://racismandnationalconsciousness.wordpress.com/ ______________________________________________________________________ This is a peoples’ conference. It is free and open to all. For each of the last 9 years about 350 engaging scholars, students, activists, writers, community and cultural workers, primarily concerned peoples of the global south, resident in the imperial north, have found it informative, stimulating, and important, and look forward to attending. To help us arrange enough seating to accommodate everyone please register throughwell ahead of the date so we can also cater for enough food for everyone. There is no registration fee. Lunch will be provided at no cost. Our speakers will address the terrifying racist murderous assault and plunder being practiced by the capitalist supremacist aggressive West and their allies against Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia and the rest of Africa, as well as the state deployment of terror in Colombia. Who are the global terrorists? Who are the democracy-toting mass murderers? Who stands to gain? And at what loss? What are the lies being circulated as truth? This will be a full intense involving day with much more to learn than the deceptions the mainstream capitalist press continues to present to the world as truth. ______________________________________________________________________ CONFERENCE PROGRAM 10:00 am – 10:30 am MINGLE, COFFEE AND TEA 10:30 am – 10:10 am WELCOME Yves Roberge, Principal, New College 10:40 am – 10:55 am OPENING REMARKS Arnold Itwaru, Conference Co-ordinator ______________________________________________________________________ 10:55 am – 11:55 am Speaker: Anas Karzai Topic: The Euro-American Imperial Logic of Racial Hatred and Authoritarianism, and the Resistance to this: The Case of Afghanistan 11:55 am – 12:30 pm DISCUSSION ______________________________________________________________________ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm LUNCH ______________________________________________________________________ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm PANEL DISCUSSION: Speaker: Enrique Castro, “The Legalization of Terror in Colombia” Speaker: Kwanza Msingwana, “Uhuru wa Bendera: Flag Independence and the Tightening Noose of Imperialism in Africa” Speaker: Safia Gahayr, “From Tripoli to Mogadishu: The Empire’s Lies, Propaganda, Greed and Terror” 2:30pm – 3:00pm DISCUSSION ______________________________________________________________________ 3:00pm – 3:10pm BREAK ______________________________________________________________________ 3:10pm – 4:10pm Speaker: Arnold Itwaru Topic: The US-NATO Capitalist Assault Against Gaddafi and Libya and the Undermining of African, Caribbean and Latin American Progress 4:10pm – 4:40pm DISCUSSION ______________________________________________________________________ 4:40pm – 5:00pm CLOSING REMARKS ______________________________________________________________________ SPONSORED BY THE CARIBBEAN STUDIES PROGRAM, NEW COLLEGE SUPPORTED BY THE OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL, NEW COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO ______________________________________________________________________ CONFERENCE CO-ORDINATORS: ARNOLD ITWARU | CARIBBEAN STUDIES, U OF T NATASHA KSONZEK | OTHER EYE BOOKS ______________________________________________________________________ http://racismandnationalconsciousness.wordpress.com/
