Critical Caribbean Feminisms Reading and Discussion Staceyann Chin and Alexis Pauline Gumbs '04 In conversation with Kaiama L. Glover, Ann Whitney Olin Professor of French and Africana Studies, Barnard College Tuesday 2/11, 6:30 p.m. Event Oval, The Diana Center, Barnard College 3009 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 Poet, actor, and performing artist Staceyann Chin is the author of the new poetry collection, Crossfire: A Litany For Survival, the critically acclaimed memoir, The Other Side of Paradise, co-writer and original performer in the Tony Award–winning Russell Simmons's Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, and author of the one-woman shows Hands Afire, Unspeakable Things, Border/Clash, and MotherStruck. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Showand 60 Minutes, and her poetry has been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post. She proudly identifies as Caribbean, Black, Asian, lesbian, a woman, and a resident of New York City, as well as a Jamaican national. The Anguilla Literary Festival called Alexis Pauline Gumbs '04"the pride of Anguilla." Alexis is the author of Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity, M Archive: After the End of the World, and Dub: Finding Ceremony and co-editor of Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines. Alexis lives in Durham, North Carolina where she stewards the Mobile Homecoming Trust Living Library of Queer Black Brilliance. This event is free, open to the public, and mobility accessible. This is a peoples’ conference. It is free and open to all. For each of the
last 9 years about 350 engaging scholars, students, activists, writers,
community and cultural workers, primarily concerned peoples of the global
south, resident in the imperial north, have found it informative,
stimulating, and important, and look forward to attending. To help us
arrange enough seating to accommodate everyone please register through
 well ahead of the date so we can also cater for
enough food for everyone. There is no registration fee. Lunch will be
provided at no cost.

Our speakers will address the terrifying racist murderous assault and
plunder being practiced by the capitalist supremacist aggressive West and
their allies against Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia and the rest of Africa,
as well as the state deployment of terror in Colombia. Who are the global
terrorists? Who are the democracy-toting mass murderers? Who stands to
gain? And at what loss? What are the lies being circulated as truth?

This will be a full intense involving day with much more to learn than the
deceptions the mainstream capitalist press continues to present to the
world as truth.
