OUR NEW PRESIDENT!

It is with pleasure that the executive committee announces that Christelle Francois has been appointed as the President of the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce. She began her time with the Chamber as a Regional Vice President and has proven herself to be efficient, loyal and dependable.  In these times of adversity, Christelle has been instrumental in building bridges and advocating on behalf of the Chamber and its members. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, skills and passion to this role.

THE MASTERMIND PROGRAM

The Mastermind program brings together a select group of individuals with a common key focus who can offer each other advice, guidance, decision-making, support, ideas, creativity, and serious accountability.

Info sessions are set once a week that engage and help to develop participants. Group discussions under the master leadership promote connectivity, networking, sharing and ultimately personal and organizational growth.

THE ETHNIC FOOD INCUBATOR PROGRAM POWERED BY SOBEYS

This program represents a critical vehicle to advance the CBCC's agenda of creating more Black Entrepreneurs in Canada, particularly in the Food & Beverage space. The Chamber is dedicated to economically empowering and sustaining Black Entrepreneurs in Canadian communities through entrepreneurship.

The program is delivered by Spring Activator and includes a 12-week program that prepares entrepreneurs for establishing their brands in the retail industry.

CANADIAN GOVERNMENT
PROCUREMENT PROGRAM 
FOR MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS
 
The government of Canada is taking steps to leverage federal procurement to achieve social and economic policy goals. This includes increasing the participation of underrepresented groups in Canadian society.

This is a part of the Government of Canada's commitment to pursue economic empowerment for marginalized communities, to increase diversity in procurement, and to support Black entrepreneurs – as outlined in the 2020 Speech from the Throne and Fall Economic Statement  – Public Services and Procurement Canada will be launching the Black Businesses Pilot (BBP) to expand bidding opportunities for Black-owned and/or operated businesses.

Minister Anand is pleased to share with you that the Black Businesses Pilot was launched on January 12, 2021, across multiple regions of the country for various goods and services, and targeted to companies owned and/or operated by Black Canadians.

Ottawa, Ontario, January 26, 2021

Minister Ng announces The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has finalized the details of the Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program (HASCAP) Guarantee, an initiative designed to provide support to all businesses that have been highly impacted by the pandemic.

The Government of Canada has mandated BDC to provide a guarantee to participating financial institutions for 100% of the value of new loans to help businesses access additional liquidity and cover operating costs.

Business owners need to contact their primary financial institution to access the program. Participating financial institutions will begin deploying the program next week.
