| While these agreements were being celebrated in Washington, fighting continued in eastern Congo, where millions of civilians remain displaced and under occupation by the Rwandan-backed M23 militia. The reality on the ground stands in stark contrast to the promises made on paper.
We need to talk honestly about what the “Washington Accords” actually mean for people on the ground in the Congo.
What we will discuss?
* What the newly signed agreements really say — in clear, accessible language. * The implications of the U.S. fast-tracking $2 billion connected to these agreements. * Why these deals are being celebrated by political leaders and corporations. * Why the deals do not immediately translate into peace, justice, or relief for Congolese civilians. * What is actually needed to achieve peace and protect civilians. * How Congolese grassroots leaders are responding and how you can stand with them.
These are the agreements now known collectively as the Washington Accords: 1. Strategic Partnership Agreement Between the DRC & US
2. Regional Economic Integration Framework Between DRC & Rwanda
3. Joint Declaration Establishing the Washington Accords
Peace Agreement Between the DRC & Rwanda (June 27, 2025)
The stakes could not be higher. Decisions made in Washington will shape the lives of millions of Congolese — yet their voices are not being represented at these negotiating tables.
This briefing is your opportunity to understand what is happening behind the headlines and to join a global community committed to peace, justice, and solidarity with the Congolese masses.
